He said he is teaching even his students in their 60s to hit with more top. I also had an interesting conversation with an older pro this summer this guy is a Div I coach, Nike youth tennis camp director and general teaching pro. One of my teaching pros, a #1 ATP doubles, top 50 singles and Davis Cup player in the late 80s and early 90s, laughed at me when I asked to learn to play that way and said, "There's a reason there was only one McEnroe." This from a guy who played with and against Mac. ).Ĭlick to expand.I tried and FAILED to go Conti on everything for 1-2 years. And yes Nadal himself uses the 3/4 i speak of.lol. You wouldnt be able to hit through the ball.

(i say 3/4 because no one really uses an absolute full Western. I again, prefer the full on crack it with all the spin you muster 3/4 Western, otherwise know as the full Western. Wilson shapes are honestly perfect in my opinion for the semi-western forehand Fed style, in which you can get half of your palm on the flat side of the handle to really aim at your targets with more of a medium-spinny ball. He did an amazing job, but i will say that it took some of the essence out of the feel of the stick. I actually had **** (Roman Prokes) customize one of my Aeropro's to a Wilson shape just for an experiment.

I really like these shapes, as they are well suited for Western forehands. Head has heard these complaints, and has made sticks like (Arlihawks) the Speed line, and Instinct line, which are a morph of the Head shape, and Wilson shape. Just as the Babo's are so rounded, that i just would not recommend for a flat hitter. But for all you really flat hitters, its a great fit. Its slim and rectangular at the same time, which to my hand feels like it promotes an Eastern forehand, which as we all know is on the endangered species list. Its funny that so many people hate the Head grip shape."take note Head".
